The RollerCoaster Tycoon games have several cheats and quirks. Most of these can be exploited by the player to give them an unfair advantage in gameplay.
<div style="background-color:yellow; color: black; text-align:center;">It has been reported that many of these codes do not work. If you check a code, and it does not work, please remove it from this page. Refer to the talk page for codes that were already confirmed.</div>

Cheat Codes
In RollerCoaster Tycoon, cheats are inputted by redesignating a guest to a certain name. The effect(s) will take place after the name is entered. The limitation is that you can not name two guests with the exact same name (However you can change the capitalization of the code to use it on multiple guests, such as Mr Bean and MR Bean). The game also includes "easter eggs" which are activated when you rename a guest as one of the following:

In Tycoon and Tycoon 2, you cannot have 2 two guests on the map with the exact same name (e.g. 2 guests named "Chris Sawyer"), but you can work around this by having 2 guests with the same name but different capitalisation (e.g. 2 guests named "Chris Sawyer" and "chriS Sawyer").
RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Cheats
Tycoon 3 allows several peeps to share the exact same name. In addition, through the Peep Designer, it is possible to activate multiple codes simultaneously or activate a single code multiple times simultaneously by creating custom peeps with the desired code(s) as their name.

Miscellaneous Exploitations and Tips
Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 & 2
Overcharging Guests
Once guests have joined a queue, they are going to ride the attraction no matter the cost (unless they grow impatient and storm out). When you see a ride with many people thinking "I'm not paying that much to go on.....", decrease the admission fee to $0. Guests will start swarming into the queue line until it is full. Then, when a train pulls into a station, pause the game and increase the admission fee. Guests will still pay to get into the ride. Then when the queue has shortened, lower the fee to free again to attract more guests. Keep doing this and coasters could potentially earn up to 5x what they normally earn in an hour.

Free Staff
You don't have to pay staff anything so long as they spend less than a week in your park. So if you see a piece of vomit, or a ride that needs fixing, for example, hire a handyman or mechanic and place him right next to the vomit/ride. Once he fixes the ride or cleans the path, sack him immediately. Repeat this for every dirty path tile/broken ride in your park, and you don't need to pay a single cent for salaries.

You're Not Allowed to Leave the Park
A classic exploit- once you find yourself near the scenario deadline and realize you have not enough guests, put a No Entry Sign on the path leading to the park exit. Guests will become stuck in your park, but more guests will still enter, so your guest number can only increase. However, the decrease in park rating by unhappy guests wanting to go home is significant, even with the highest rating possible, so keep an eye on the rating if you need it above a certain number to finish the scenario.

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 Only
Easy Money
Tycoon 2 has a feature where the game will automatically clear some scenery when a ride is being constructed. For example, if a ride is being placed on terrain occupied by trees, the ride can be placed without manually removing the trees. This feature isn't perfect, however, as the cost of automatically removing such items (trees, bushes, shrubs) is much higher than manually removing them. However some items, notably Base Blocks, when automatically removed by placing a ride, return more money than it costs to place them. This opens a handful of possibilities to exploit this glitch for easy money when you need it.

<u>Below are 5 different ways of exploiting this glitch for money:</u>

  +
Other Quirks
#Placing a large cluster of Base Blocks, 3 blocks long by 3 blocks large *9+ blocks high on each, and then placing a ride (such as the Twist or the Merry-Go-Round) where the blocks sit: the auto-clear feature will then sell those blocks, for a good profit.

  +
In addition to cheat codes, all RollerCoaster Tycoon games have other unusual quirks or loopholes that can be exploited to your advantage and/or for your amusement.
#Using an alternate process for this very same cheat, by making the base block cluster 3 blocks wide *4 blocks long *40 blocks high, then placing 3 Ferris Wheels one against the other, in the blocks. Each wheel would bring a substantial amount of money, then bring another few hundred dollars on demolition.

#Another way of exploiting this cheat is to make a line of base blocks of 5 blocks high, then build a ride that goes through this line of blocks. Each portion of ride would cost  $-200+, depending on the type of ride you're building, although the animated swamp blocks from the Horror theme bring much more. The most profitable rides for this cheat are the Miniature Railroad, Car Ride, and Steel Twister Coasters work well.

# This can even be easier: instead of stacking base blocks (even though it makes a nice practice for the Ctrl. Feature), you can build water jets, from the water theming. There, build a ride that goes through the fountains you've placed earlier. Quick, easy money.

#But the easiest way to make money using this cheat, is to build a Launched Freefall (or any tower ride for that matter) with the smallest height. Normally, it should have no more than two tower blocks above the base. Above it, stack as many base blocks as you can (un-zoom to help), preferably 70 or more of them. Then test and save the ride with its "scenery" on. Your "Cheat Tower" is just ready for action. Now, in any park on which you need quick money, just build it and expand the tower through the blocks...

Track-less train
+
RCT1 and RCT2/RCTC
  +
* In a scenario where guests pay for rides, when a guest enters the queue for a ride, they will not leave the queue unless the ride is closed or they have spent 9-11 minutes waiting in line. You can therefore repeatedly adjust the admission fee of the ride such that it is "Free", which causes many guests to enter the ride's queue, then set the admission fee to a very high amount when guests are boarding the ride. This will cause guests about to board the ride to pay a huge amount of cash (assuming they still have enough cash to pay for it). This exploit is more effective on rides with high guest capacities, such as roller coasters.
Tycoon 2 has a glitch involving roller coasters with a powered launch option, such as the looping or corkscrew roller coasters. By building a station and track leading to a straight stretch of pathway, the train can be made to roll along the path for a long distance without crashing. The train will crash once it reaches the end of the pathway, and some cars on the train may stray off the straight path and crash individually beforehand. Trains do not interact with any guests on the path and do not damage or remove path objects.

  +
* Staff that are employed for less than 7 days in-game are not paid a portion of their monthly salaries and therefore work for free during this period, so you can hire staff to immediately fix problems in your park and then sack them immediately after they have fixed the problem without having to pay them for their services. The logical extreme of this exploit is that you don't need to pay a single cent for handymen and mechanics if you only hire them whenever you need one, but otherwise have an empty staff list.
  +
* If your scenario objective is to have a certain number of guests in your park by the end of a certain year, you only need a few additional guests in your park, and you only have a few days left before the deadline, you can block the park exits with No-Entry signs or by removing the path tile right after the park entrances. While your park rating will start to drop once you do this, this exploit will keep guests intending to leave the park around for a slightly longer period of time, hopefully for a long enough time for the deadline to pass without your park rating dropping below the objective.
  +
* Cars on tracked rides with a powered launch option that are launched off a straight track, or through an entrance and out an exit of a ride, and directly onto a straight section footpath will careen along the footpath without interacting with other objects along the path (i.e. guests and path items), exploding only when they stray off the footpath.

  +
RCT2/RCTC
  +
* RCT2 adds a variable price for scenery removal&mdash;scenery items that cost a fee to be removed (such as trees) will cost less if you remove them via right-clicking while a construction tool is active or via the bulldozer, and cost more if they are removed automatically when a track piece is placed on the same tile. However, the reverse is true for scenery items that give you money when they are removed&mdash;they give you less money when they are removed via right-clicking while a construction tool is active or via the bulldozer, and give more money if they are removed automatically when a track piece is placed on the same tile. There are several ways to exploit this quirk to gain money from ride construction, such as:
  +
*# placing a large cluster of Base Blocks 3 tiles square and 9 units high, then building a 3x3 flat ride such as the Twist or the Merry-Go-Round on the same spot as the Base Blocks, which automatically clears the blocks for a good profit, followed by demolishing the ride you just built, which adds even more money into your coffers;
  +
*# placing a Base Block cluster 3 tiles wide, 4 tiles long and 40 units high, then building 3 Ferris Wheels on same same spot as the cluster and adjacent to each other, which nets you a profit for constructing them due to the Base Blocks being automatically demolished, followed by demolishing the Ferris Wheels you just built, which also nets you a profit for demolishing them;
  +
*# placing a line of Fountains, building a track type with high placement cost through the line of Fountains (which generates profit from the game automatically demolishing the Fountains), then demolishing the track you just built (which generates even more profit);
  +
*# building a tower ride such as the Launched Freefall with the shortest safe height, stacking about 70 Base Blocks directly above the ride's tower section, testing and saving the ride with the Base Blacks placed directly above it as included scenery, and building this saved design in any scenario that has this ride type available and expanding the tower through the Base Blocks (which generates a profit from their automatic demolition) before optionally demolishing the tower (which also generates a profit)

  +
RCT3
  +
* You can build above the mesas at the back of the park in Broom Lake (where the cliffside buildings are) as well as within the canyon in Ghost Town, even though you do not own the construction rights for either region.
  +
* You can demolish the cliffside building sections at the back of the park in Broom Lake that do not intersect the ground for a bit of extra cash.
  +
* Despite being built outside the park boundaries and not being a ride designed for the purposes of carrying peeps or making money through ride admissions, the Grande Western Train Line in Gunslinger can still be controlled by you, and thus made to simulate a shuttle service from beyond the map edge for added realism, crashed for your amusement, or demolished for extra cash.

In the mesas in the back of the park in Broom Lake (the ones with the steel wall structures on them) as well as the large canyon in Ghost Town, you can not purchase this land nor purchase construction rights for it. However, you are still allowed to build various objects within the area.

The RollerCoaster Tycoon games have several cheats and quirks. Most of these can be exploited by the player to give them an unfair advantage in gameplay.

Cheat Codes

Simon

Simon Foster painting on an easel.

In all RollerCoaster Tycoon games, cheat codes are activated by renaming a guest/peep to a specific name. The effects will take place once the name is entered. This is done by clicking on the nametag icon in the Guest's window.

In RollerCoaster Tycoon and RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, you cannot have 2 two guests on the map with the exact same name (e.g. 2 guests named "Chris Sawyer"), but you can work around this by having 2 guests with the same name but different capitalisation (e.g. 2 guests named "Chris Sawyer" and "chriS Sawyer").

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 allows several peeps to share the exact same name. In addition, through the Peep Designer, it is possible to activate multiple codes simultaneously or activate a single code multiple times simultaneously by creating custom peeps with the desired code(s) as their name.

RCT1

Name Action(s)
Andy Hine Comments "Nice ride! But not as nice as the Phoenix..." after leaving a roller coaster
Chris Sawyer Takes pictures frequently while navigating the park
Damon Hill

Rides all Go Karts twice as fast.

David Ellis Mutters "...and here we are on <ride name>!" roller coaster train that is leaving the station.
Emma Garrell Turns the shirt colour of all guests within a tile's range to purple.
Felicity Anderson Causes all guests within a tile's range to continuously throw up.
Jacques Villeneuve Rides all Go Karts three times as fast.
John Wardley Thinks "Wow!" often.
Katie Brayshaw Waves at guests occasionally.
Katie Smith Jumps occasionally
Lisa Stirling Litter bug, will drop litter often.
Melanie Warn Sets the guest's Happiness and Energy to maximum and reduces their Nausea to zero upon renaming
Michael Schumacher Rides all Go Karts four times as fast
Mr Bean - Rides all Go Karts slowly, at 3 km/h
Nancy Stillwagon

- Causes all guests within a tile's range to have an ice-cream.

Simon Foster Stops to set up an easel and paints.

RCT2/RCTC

In addition to the following codes, all codes from RCT1 will still work.

Name Action(s)
Elissa White Thinks "Brilliant...it's an Intamin Ride." when riding any ride made by Intamin (Giga Coaster, Inverted Impulse Coaster, etc.)
Katie Rodger Wants to leave the park.
Carol Young Reduces the Happiness of the renamed guest.
Donald Macrae Thinks "I'm lost!" often.

  • Staff that are employed for less than 7 days in-game are not paid a portion of their monthly salaries and therefore work for free during this period, so you can hire staff to immediately fix problems in your park and then sack them immediately after they have fixed the problem without having to pay them for their services. The logical extreme of this exploit is that you don't need to pay a single cent for handymen and mechanics if you only hire them whenever you need one, but otherwise have an empty staff list.
  • If your scenario objective is to have a certain number of guests in your park by the end of a certain year, you only need a few additional guests in your park, and you only have a few days left before the deadline, you can block the park exits with No-Entry signs or by removing the path tile right after the park entrances. While your park rating will start to drop once you do this, this exploit will keep guests intending to leave the park around for a slightly longer period of time, hopefully for a long enough time for the deadline to pass without your park rating dropping below the objective.
  • Cars on tracked rides with a powered launch option that are launched off a straight track, or through an entrance and out an exit of a ride, and directly onto a straight section footpath will careen along the footpath without interacting with other objects along the path (i.e. guests and path items), exploding only when they stray off the footpath.

RCT2/RCTC

  • RCT2 adds a variable price for scenery removal—scenery items that cost a fee to be removed (such as trees) will cost less if you remove them via right-clicking while a construction tool is active or via the bulldozer, and cost more if they are removed automatically when a track piece is placed on the same tile. However, the reverse is true for scenery items that give you money when they are removed—they give you less money when they are removed via right-clicking while a construction tool is active or via the bulldozer, and give more money if they are removed automatically when a track piece is placed on the same tile. There are several ways to exploit this quirk to gain money from ride construction, such as:
    1. placing a large cluster of Base Blocks 3 tiles square and 9 units high, then building a 3x3 flat ride such as the Twist or the Merry-Go-Round on the same spot as the Base Blocks, which automatically clears the blocks for a good profit, followed by demolishing the ride you just built, which adds even more money into your coffers;
    2. placing a Base Block cluster 3 tiles wide, 4 tiles long and 40 units high, then building 3 Ferris Wheels on same same spot as the cluster and adjacent to each other, which nets you a profit for constructing them due to the Base Blocks being automatically demolished, followed by demolishing the Ferris Wheels you just built, which also nets you a profit for demolishing them;
    3. placing a line of Fountains, building a track type with high placement cost through the line of Fountains (which generates profit from the game automatically demolishing the Fountains), then demolishing the track you just built (which generates even more profit);
    4. building a tower ride such as the Launched Freefall with the shortest safe height, stacking about 70 Base Blocks directly above the ride's tower section, testing and saving the ride with the Base Blacks placed directly above it as included scenery, and building this saved design in any scenario that has this ride type available and expanding the tower through the Base Blocks (which generates a profit from their automatic demolition) before optionally demolishing the tower (which also generates a profit)

RCT3

  • You can build above the mesas at the back of the park in Broom Lake (where the cliffside buildings are) as well as within the canyon in Ghost Town, even though you do not own the construction rights for either region.
  • You can demolish the cliffside building sections at the back of the park in Broom Lake that do not intersect the ground for a bit of extra cash.
  • Despite being built outside the park boundaries and not being a ride designed for the purposes of carrying peeps or making money through ride admissions, the Grande Western Train Line in Gunslinger can still be controlled by you, and thus made to simulate a shuttle service from beyond the map edge for added realism, crashed for your amusement, or demolished for extra cash.
